I am overwhelmed. I have been doing studio research for the past week. I have to say it was a heavy chore. The possibilities are endless. First of all, I had to find a way to improve my vocal quality in my music. This would be solved by getting a better microphone. The problem was, I was using an older version of Cakewalk Home Studio on Windows Vista. So every time I tried using a USB microphone on the Cakewalk it would get confused and shut down the program. This was very frustrating for me.
So I did the unbelievable. I started a Dell account and got me a new computer. It will have 1 Terrabyte 7200 rpm hard drive with the sweet spot – 12 GB RAM. That is Right – 12 GB. That means what ever DAW I use it will not lock up or freeze. I am also going to get Cubase Studio and the new Fruity Loops Studio Software. So that should cover my editing and mixing capability.
Now, the keyboard issue: My old Kurzweil just did not do well with technology increasing the way it is. For god’s sake it has a floppy drive and a SCSI port. Internal battery is low 2.2 volts. Ok. Which means it is a piece of crap. So I looked into trying to find a better keyboard workstation. At first, I wanted to get the big Roland Fantom G6 – But I can’t afford it. So I decided to get the New Korg M50. I always wanted a Korg anyway. So that works. I know I won’t be disappointed.
As far as the microphone goes, I am going to get the USB MXL 990. I think it will do what I want for the new CPU. It also has a case and a little desktop stand. I’ll be getting me some USB Studio Monitors so I can use the CPU and play my keyboard at the same time. This comes in handy. All this should be up and running by late February or early March.
It got very tiresome for me to figure out a new strategy. I use FL Studio quite a bit in the demo version so I know that will be nice to have getting the full version. Cubase will take a while for me to learn. But overall, I will have a workhorse computer that can handle anything I throw at it. And fixing the Mic problem will help too. So overall, I rate my choices a 4 out of 5 stars.
I will have to wait until I get more money to buy the nicer keyboard workstation. But all good things come in time.
Peace,
